Conrad Peters serves ABM as Director of Pastoral Care. His bush trips, phone calls, counseling, and tracking team connections serve to encourage and strengthen pastor and missionary families to effectively advance the Gospel of Jesus Christ throughout remote Alaska. His years of pastoral experience in the Pacific Northwest, Canada, and Alaska prepared him to love, understand, and encourage ministers in various social and economic backgrounds. As a pastor’s kid, born in St. Louis, Missouri, Conrad grew up in the San Francisco Bay area, attended Western Baptist Bible College, and Moody Bible Institute. When his parents left for Vietnam as missionaries, he moved to Fresno, California and graduated from Fresno Pacific University in 1969. He married MarJean Quiring that year and they moved to Portland where Conrad received his Masters of Divinity from Western Baptist Seminary in 1973.
MarJean’s years as a teacher, pastor’s wife, writer, and illustrator prepared her for her role as a writer and editor for ABM. She produces various ABM publications and each month puts out a small publication called Courage for Bush Ministry Women. She identifies with these women who serve in remote Alaskan villages because she grew up in northern Saskatchewan with several years of no electricity, telephones, or indoor plumbing. At age 12, her family moved to Dallas, Oregon. She earned her BA degree in art and literature from Fresno Pacific University and taught high school in Portland, Oregon during Conrad’s years in seminary.
The Peter’s purchased a home that accommodates missionary and work team guests, as well as visits from their children and grandchildren. Their oldest son, Jonathan, is the executive director of Arctic Barnabas. He and Becky have three children, Abigail, Seth, and Allison. Son Jami and wife Kristy live near Palmer with their children, Anna, Levi, Sarah, and Josiah. Their daughter, Charissa, and husband Bryan Phillips live in Anchorage with their children, Ben, Joel, Seona, and David. Son Joel and his wife Amy are relocating from Anchorage to Spokane, Washington with their daughter, Elizabeth. Jonathan has a degree in forestry and aircraft maintenance. Their other sons are engineers.
